Green Investing On My Mind

I organized a panel on green investing (announced in a Jan. 11th blog) in January which, I am pleased to say, was very successful. We had approximately 70 attendees and there was a waiting list to get in. Interestingly, there was a good mix of individuals from local SRI and non-SRI firms.

Below I've placed links to the presentations by Willy Osborn, who spoke about private equity investment in the sector, and Jack Robinson, who spoke about public market investment. Both talks were excellent.

Green investing is clearly a topic that is on investor minds. I have participated in a number of sell-side sponsored events on clean-tech and attendance was been very good. Wall Street's interest in the sector is critical for growth of the industry; however it is becoming more challenging to find attractively valued stocks. Alternative energy indices are surging and short interest in a number of stocks is picking up dramatically. Clearly, it is now more challenging to just buy and hold. For investors with an extremely long investment horizon, buy and hold may still work as a strategy. However, investors with a shorter investment horizon will need to carefully pick their entry and exit points.
