Program Description
Investing in environmentally friendly companies and technologies has increased dramatically in the past five years as the price of oil has surged, concern regarding global warming mounts, and fresh water supply shrinks. Please join us for a presentation with Willy Osborn and Jack Robinson, as they discuss investment opportunities and obstacles in this rapidly expanding area.
William Osborn is the Managing Director of the Massachusetts Green Energy Fund and a venture capital Manager with Commons Capital, a "double-bottom-line" venture capital fund that invests in promising young companies with significant growth potential in the clean energy, environmental, healthcare, and education sectors. Mr. Osborn sits or has recently been on the boards of several start-up and expansion-stage companies, including Evergreen Solar, Inc. (photovoltaic modules), World Power Technologies, Inc. (power quality instrumentation), Evolutionary Technologies, Inc. (enterprise software for applications integration), Surgical Sealants, Inc. (surgical wound products), Fingerlakes Aquaculture LLC (recycled-water aquaculture), and Conservation Services Group (energy efficiency services). Mr. Osborn is a founding Trustee of the Domini Social Equity Fund and Board Member of Investors’ Circle, where he has also chaired the Selection Committee that selects companies to present to members for investment.
Jackson W. Robinson is President and Chief Investment Officer of Winslow Management Company, LLC an independent, Boston-based investment management firm that specializes in small-cap growth equity investing. Incorporating traditional bottom-up fundamental analysis with an in-depth analysis of a company's environmental and corporate governance practices, Winslow currently manages assets for individuals, corporations and a variety of institutions through three investment products - separately managed accounts, a hedge fund, and the Winslow Green Growth Fund. Prior to founding Winslow, Jack was an officer and director of Garden Way, Inc. and President of the National Gardening Association, both socially responsible organizations. Jack serves as the Chairman of the Board of Spartech Corporation and as a Trustee of Suffield Academy, where he chairs the investment committee. Mr. Robinson also serves on the Advisory Board of the American Council for Renewable Energy (ACORE) and is frequently quoted by Barron's, CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and National Public Radio.
